Misalignment Burnout: When Your Job No Longer Feels Like You
Have you ever looked at your career and wondered, “I should be grateful—so why do I feel so empty?”
You’ve done everything right: the degrees, the title, the steady income.
 But inside, you feel drained.
 Disengaged.
 Disconnected.
That’s not just stress.
That’s misalignment burnout—a form of emotional and nervous system exhaustion that arises when your job no longer reflects who you are or what you value.
What Is Misalignment Burnout?
Unlike physical burnout from long hours or excessive workload, misalignment burnout occurs when your work looks great on paper but feels wrong in your soul. It’s success that no longer fits.
Signs of misalignment burnout:
You dread the workweek, even when your workload is “manageable”
You feel numb or cynical about tasks that once energized you
You think, “This isn’t who I am anymore”—but change feels overwhelming
You say things like, “I’ve come too far to quit” or “I should be grateful”
📊 A 2023 McKinsey study found that 1 in 3 employees feel disconnected from the purpose of their work.
Gallup reports that 80% of workers globally aren’t engaged.
That’s not just a workplace issue—it’s a purpose issue.
It’s your body and spirit asking for realignment.
My Journey Through Career Burnout
I’ve lived this.
At one point, I held a stable, well-established position in a corporate setting. I had financial security, professional credibility, and a respected position. But internally, something felt off. I found myself longing for something deeper—something more aligned with my evolving purpose.
At first, I brushed it off. I told myself I should be content. But over time, the disconnect started impacting my sleep, my focus, and my sense of self. Looking back, I now recognize what was happening: I was experiencing burnout rooted in misalignment.
I hadn’t failed. I had simply outgrown a version of success that no longer reflected who I was becoming.
Letting go of that role wasn’t about giving up—it was about realigning with clarity, integrity, and wellness. And it deepened my empathy as a leader, giving me tools to help others move through similar crossroads.

How EFT can help shift fear, reduce resistance, and invite clarity
Brad’s message was clear:
The universe doesn’t want you to suffer while sharing your gifts. You’re meant to be supported and fulfilled.
